Vintage Bentley Founder Switches To Synthetic Fuel

William Medcalf, founder of Vintage Bentley, was talking to his daughter Charlotte who pointed out that the cars he races are ‘bad for the environment’.

This has led Mr Medcalf to think about alternatives to traditional fuels, resulting in him finding a German company that creates fossil-free synthetic fuel.

Synthetic fuels are made by extracting carbon dioxide and water from the environment. The water is split by electrolysis, making hydrogen which is then synthesised with carbon.

INEOS and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS have launched a competition, calling for children aged between 11-18 years old to design a helmet for Sir Lewis Hamilton.

The helmet must feature an original design suitable for a Formula 1 professional.

Wells Cathedral School has been named as having one of the top 10 most picturesque cricket grounds in Britain by The Telegraph.

The list was created by Chief Cricket Writer, Scyld Berry who based the list on his personal choice and those that are not currently used for first-class cricket.

The school has always taken great pride in the maintenance of the grounds, having previously visited Lord’s Cricket Ground to learn about groundskeeping techniques from their Head Groundsman.

Food Waste Partnership Creates Thousands Of Meals

Holme Grange, in partnership with Thomas Franks Foundation and City Harvest, have turned 12 tonnes of surplus food into 10,000 meals.

No other school in the country has collaborated on a food waste project to this scale ever before.

The Royal Ballet School has partnered with Strictly Come Dancing Stars, Nadiya Bychkova and Karim Zeroual.

The stars will be ambassadors for the Primary Steps on Demand platform. This is a creative dance programme for schools aimed at pupils aged between 7-11 years old.

Hazlegrove Pupil Stars In The Velveteen Rabbit On Apple TV+

A pupil from Hazlegrove School, Phoenix L, is starring in the film adaptation of The Velveteen Rabbit which is now available on Apple TV+.

The film is based on the 1922 classic book, by screenwriter Tom Bidwell also known from My Mad Fat Diary. As well as Martin Pope, know from The Gruffalo.

Phoenix auditioned for the role in 2022 and filming for the movie commenced in Dublin in November 2022.

Staff from Bede’s Trust have taken part in the Beachy Head Marathon, running 400km and 11.074 in elevation.

The team of staff helped raise funds towards the Sixth Form Transformational Bursaries.

Clipper Race 2023 - Who Won?

Angus Whitehead, a former student at Monmouth School for Boys, has won the second leg of the round the world clippers race.

Angus arrived in Uruguay with a finish time of 26 days, 9 hours, 43 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Clipper Race is a challenge that involves sailing 40,000 nautical miles around the world on a 70-foot yacht. This year’s route will start in Portsmouth and take the sailors to ports in Uruguay, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, China and USA.

Henry Searle, pupil at Loughborough Amherst has become the first Brit to win the Boys’ Singles Title at Wimbledon since 1962.
